Re: Suitable graphics card for aging PC - Help!

I have a copy of Windows 7 on my desktop now (not yet authenticated). So how best to upgrade ram? I currently have 2x 2gb ddr3. Should I replace these with 2x 4gb ddr3 or add to them with with two more lots of 2gb ddr3?

Re: Suitable graphics card for aging PC - Help!

it is looking like most suitable power supply units are going to be too big for my case, as an example the corsairs all seem to be 140 mm x 150 mm. My current PSU is 120 mm x 130 mm. However I have seen a 500w silverstone I think that is the right size but looks to be about 25 quid more than would o...

Re: Suitable graphics card for aging PC - Help!

Kkn_ - I wouldn't know how to install an OS but I guess I could figure it out. ALXAndy - yeah that makes sense doesn't it as it would be unusual to have 3 gb ram right? There are two ram board in the motherboard so I guess there is 2 x 2gb can't see the small print on them but the logo is 'Crucial'....

Re: The Emulation thread.

I have been using project 64 over the last couple of days with a PS3 controller. I have used zsnes before for A Link to the Past but was blown away by how easy P64 has been to set up and use. Have been having a quick go on quite a few old favourites SM64 etc but have really enjoyed International Sup...

Re: Suitable graphics card for aging PC - Help!

ALX Andy / kkn_ - I think in time I will go that way in time. Gigabyte website tells me that the motherboard does support Windows 7 but I am not sure about its availability or where I could get a copy. Is there any reason why it wouldn't support windows 8? Can you give me anymore details on the 750t...

Re: Suitable graphics card for aging PC - Help!

I am pretty certain I only have 3GB of ram. There are at least two slots for ddr3 ram on the motherboard, is upgrading just a case of swapping them out?

Re: Suitable graphics card for aging PC - Help!

Well I have double checked and there is definitely a PCI-E slot. I have tried to attach a photo of inside the box, sorry it is not the best. Can some one tell me if I am able to connect a graphics card up to my current psu which has a couple of spare 4 pin connectors if I get a 6 or 8 pin connector ...

Would anyone recommend an upgrade to a newer windows on this desktop? Am I right in thinking that the new editions of windows use up more CPU/RAM?

Re: Suitable graphics card for aging PC - Help!

ALXandy - Yeah I agree re: the PSU, am definitely concerned with that as it has blown before and am sure was replaced cheaply. I googled the model and it retails for £40 and seems to be unbranded so not very convincing. I am certain it has PCI-E slots but you have got me doubting now! Will take a pi...

Re: Suitable graphics card for aging PC - Help!

Full Metal Tony - The desktop was made by a small local shop. As you face the front of the tower the motherboard is on the right hand side, I have no idea if that is the right way or not. There seems to be plenty of room in the tower. About 8 inches length and 3-4 in height and I could make a bit mo...

Re: Suitable graphics card for aging PC - Help!

Pranks, I am in the UK. Not sure what the resolution of the monitor is, other than I know it has hdmi inputs, I've googled the model number and still none the wiser. And I guess my budget would be about £100.

Thanks

Hello Everyone

Oh sorry I forgot to say hello properly, I'm not sure I would say that I am yet 'mid life' but I do have 20+ years gaming experience on consoles and handheld, Nintendo mostly, although will be firing up Civ 5 later this evening (low settings obviously) for a good few turns.

Nice to meet y'all
