It's Intels way of doing things, Process-Architecture-Optimization. It was called a Tick, Tock, cycle. They will get 3 cycles out of 14nm so Intel won't skip a cycle but yeah it would make sense lol
Hi Chris, welcome to MLG. Give it a good clean out if its full of dust, make sure motherboard drivers etc. are all up to date. Also get hardware monitor and check the temps of cpu and gpu.
New HEDT chips are coming next year with Core-i7 Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X using a new LGA-2066 socket. Upgrading next year (GPU) but not sure weather to bother with my chip etc. But with these beasts coming out it is VERY tempting. I just might have to scratch this upgrade itch. I have been good so...

You should be able to push your 6700K a little on default voltage, might even be able to under volt it but i have no experience with Skylake, probably just a multiplier adjustment for a mild overclock but im not sure. A K series CPU is just asking to be overclocked for sure and you have the cooling ...
