How MLG started

Post #1 by OverFienD » Fri Jul 25, 2014 12:02 am

Just like to thank everyone who has joined so far. It's great to see anyone is getting on. A testament to what we set out to achieve :)

I thought I would give you guy's and girl's a little back story on how MLG started. It started a few years back when Glen (Suffolkboy) and I were thinking about creating a new steam group. We originally used SAS (Silly Arse Soldiers) in Battlefield 2, with a total of 5 members which included David (Frenzic) ,Paul ( AdmiralHuddy), LittleOverFienD (my son who is now FireBall180) plus Glen and I of course. I can't remember which one of us came up with the MidLifeGamers name but it fitted perfectly with our age group and friends around us although Huddy needed Grandad status of his own [Edit by Huddy - **** bag ].

We continued playing games for a few years under the MLG tags unders Steam etc for a number of years. We had the odd person joining here but newer members were few and far between. I guess they thought we were major league gamers .

In our early days, we used a number of chat programs including messenger, X-Fire before SuffolkBoy created his own Team Speak server. Although this worked fine, it was unreliable and couldn't cope with larger quantities of players so we decided to bit-the-bullet and start renting our own TS3 server which we still use today. We gave Frenzic the job of sorting out the icons in the server, while Glen and I banned Huddy every time he came in...just because we could

Later we created our own BF3 Platoon which naturally progressed in a regular "Battlefield Wednesday" Hooooah which is always something to look forward too mid-week. We then decided to set up a free iClan website to post news and general chit chat about our gaming evenings. We wanted to share our experiences, link to our youtube page and promote our TS3 sever, as we wanted people to join us. Suffolkboy brought the domain name which we still use today.

However, the iClan site wasn't really attracting any interest and we found we were just posting news between ourselves so Huddy set-up and created a phpbb bulletin board from his host for us to use. We voted unanimously that this is the way we wanted to go. After a tricky start and nearly pulling he plug we decided to be a little more proactive, and though seriously hard about taking on someone to help us out. Early this year we appointed some young whipper snapper called Gregster how brought a new lease of life and guidance to the forum. Greg has brought new members which has transformed the forum which we have been delighted about. We even have our own HWbot team MLG, and lots of banter which i like. For his hard work we granted him Admin status and has equal share it what's decided.

Looking ahead, we have thought also about general moderation and was pleased to appoint our first moderator (Mod). We welcomed Pgi947 (Paul) to the team, who has helped with watercooling and overclocking setups. Paul has also setup the BF server, cheers Paul...

As the forum gets bigger with more members, we will be looking for more mods in the future.

I would just like to say thank you to Huddy, because he has put a lot of time into coding and setting things up in the background.

If i have missed anything out guy's please add in the comments below.

Once again thank you for all your support the MLG Admin team Aged to Perfection................... 8-)

A good read though I have to admit I was hopeful of some north Korean style story.

"A magic Dragon flew from the volcano and farted the letters MLG, from that day on our dear leader General admiral huddy strived to spread the word of the dragons guff"

I used to have massive arguments with Huddy over email and i always liked his honesty (told me I was being a dick if I was) and when he told me about the forums, I thought I would give it a look and in fairness, I have not looked back. The banter and raging on TS is worth coming on TS for and we have all had bad days on games.

Cool story bro...

Interesting to read about how it all started. I always have loads of fun playing on a Wednesday, despite occasionally raging and resorting to threats of violence. :)

Good read guy's I wish you the best of luck. My - our clan downwardspiral.org {DS} started in a similar way back when UT2K4 was hot. we still have a site and a few die hard members but very little action. I really appreciate the invite to the MLG and hope to have some fun with my new found friends.
I will ask the guy's to stop by and check out the site and see if they would like to join if that's ok. If you guy's ever need help with anything dont hesitate to ask. thanks again 8-)

That's really kind of you to ask Meankeys.. Thanks..

Getting new members and to keep them posting regularly is our priority as we want this place kicking.. so any help would be greatly appreciated so no need to ask..

Our values here is that we are relaxed and everyone has a part to play.. That's why none of the admin or mod team have there status shown.

Just like too thank all the new peeps for joining, please make this forum your home. We are more relaxed with swearing, if the swearing filter don't pick it up. We are here to help each other, weather it be games, benching and general stuff. All i ask if that you get along and the future looks bright, and yes I am pissed. Greg's fault brought me too many shots. Love you all xx xx xx. Oh yeah huddy got pissed on two pints. Back me up Greg..

My head is spinning out, plus a ****** wasp stunk me on the top of the head ******. Being so hard i cried to huddy and Gregg to get the sting out. They just told me to shut up,and drink more beer do i did. Feel better now. Huddy is still a wimp at drinking, Greg hat's off to you a true drinker. Night peeps need a piss....
