Can you ask what volts @4.6?? And what cooling was used, air, water??

If its using around 1.32v @ 4.6GHz on say an all in one water cooler such as the corsair H100 then its slightly better than average.

I asked and he could get it 4,7 @ 1.4v (benchmark only)
would this be a good choice if i want to do DICE sessions with it in the future, or would buying a new one most likely get me a better one?
i also want to score some points @ HWBOT with it :)

I'd possibly send Pulse88 a PM in here, he has a very nice one and could tell you batch#, don't forget there's also the Intel tuning plan and for a Small fee, around $25 you can get another go at the silicone lottery.

If it can't do 4.7@1.4v I think you'd be lucky to reach 5.1@1.6v under DICE, so it would be ok but not great TBH

Pulse's XTU sub, @ just over 5G 1.44v on single stage, on DICE this would likely hit 5.5-5.6 @ 1.6v so a good example.

What's the unit of measure to test clocks?

Just picked up a 5820K and is stable at 4.5G w/ 1.25v in RealBench stress test for 1hr. That's max though. 4.6G just isn't stable no matter what the volts.

I've yet to try less intensive apps like Cinebench.

You made the right call. I got two 5820K for my work, the worst one is 100% stable @ 4.6GHz. The better one is stable @ 4.8 GHz and passes XTU @ 4.9 GHz on AIO water. Tested the better one on LN2 and got it to 5.5GHz in most multicore benchmarks (incl XTU). Good luck with it!

unfortunatly i got a bad one :( i can get it bench stable @ 45x and 1.4v :( (cant run XTU due to heat problem)
I only changed core voltage, if i try to play with uncore, even if its only from 30x to 31x, it wont even boot!
is there any other voltage i need to adjust for that ?
well anyway i am planning to buy the Performance Tuning Protection Plan that you guys talked about and hopefully wil get better chip then :)

Sucks to get such a bad CPU. The protection plan can't be used the first month after getting it. So you will have to wait a while to use that option. Maybe sell it and get a new one?

Lucky bugger :D I can get 4.6 out of mine at 1.24v. Cooler isn't really sufficient for any more. 8 Pack said they were getting better now due to Intel chasing better CPUS. Good news for all :)

If i can get 4.4/5 ill be more than happy. Just hope my k2 cooler is upto the job. Though i might eventually replace it with one of the upcoming ek predator systems.

That thing is smex. I bet it costs though

8 Pack said that pretty much every single recent 5820k can do 4.2ghz easy on a basic air cooler. They're supposedly getting much better now that Intel are in the rhythm. This is good because before 4.2 was a lucky clock and most had to settle for 4ghz.

I really thought at first that this 5820k was going to be a side or downgrade from my 3970x but it's a good bit faster which I'm well chuffed about.

Right, got mine stable at 4.7/4.4 1.275/1.225v.

The problem I'm having is I'm unable to run a 1:1 core/uncore.

Uncore is always 200hz lower than core no matter what I set.

Any ideas?
