Indeed, wouldn't be so bad if i was pushing it but sadly not :( had a loose wire on a 24pin ext. i was using which may of been the cause, truly gutted mate. Thats me out of action for a bit and dont know if i should find another 6.3ghz+ chip or wait for skylake?

PSU's kill more hardware than anything else mate.

Always make sure you regularly give your connectors a good inspection. I check each and every time I fit stuff.

Killed some really good stuff by not checking in the past.

Sad thing to hear Nick. First Soc force board died on you and now a golden cpu... Seems you have been unlucky with hardware dieing on you lately. :(

I hope you find a replacement cpu soon.

Absolutely gutted, Nick. :(

There are quite a few 4770Ks popping up on the Bot that are good ones at the moment. There was a 6.3GHz chip from Gunny that went for $400 and zeropluszero had a goodie for $480 but no one bit as it was too expensive.

Feel sorry for you. I know the feeling. My 3570K which was good for XTU at almost 6.4GHz died a few weeks ago. And that was the whole benchmark, not with slow-mode...Only had time to bench it 2 or 3 times...

Shame to hear that mate. Using a few extensions here myself and have been wary of doing so. Got into the habit of checking them regularly.

If I may offer some advice to anyone who benches. Do not use your best CPU for XTU... EVER.

Second best yes if you must.

Really sorry to hear that Nick, I know the feeling and it's horrible.

The good news is as soon as you start benching again you'll start to forget it. Rest in peace yet another golden 4770K.

You got it backwards - Kinda..... All P4's (Except Cedar Mills?) stoke the fires since those things run hotter than hell as we all know.
The only AMD's found there would be the 9xxx Visheras, making their contribution too.

Fine, I'll correct it again. ;)

AMD suck mega watts, and therefore they are heating up the earth thanks to global warming.

Got the dreaded 00 yesterday. Was running a little Fire strike extreme on water cooling @ 1.4V. Then system locks up and when I reboot: 00.
Tried a different MB at work today: 00

And this was my 5.67GHz 5960X!!!

Thank god for Intel protection plan. But now it seems my planned fire strike runs, which were next in line for my benching, will have to wait. Got to find a good 5960X again, that will not cost a ton of money

Very well, moving on to Skylake and the Galax comp :)

dead skylake here through deliding, was my own fault really but lesson learnt, check the razor before you delid, if it isn't perfect then no point risking it on the CPU, it's a very expensive lesson otherwise.

Sorry to hear guys, that is gutting :(
The hardware gods always demand their sacrifices!

Regarding the Tuning Plan, is there a time limit on how long after buying the processor you can wait before buying it? and once bought can you just send it back no questions asked or do you need to wait a while and then say its started degrading or somthing??
My 5820k was bought about 9-10 months ago I think, initially I didnt intend on ocing because I hadnt got back into it , the cpu was just going in my daily gamer rig so insurance was never thought about, but now I have started ocing again I have found that it is a right dog of a chip and would love another spin at the lottery. I should also cover my 6600k while Im at it!

You have to buy the protection plan within a year of purchase. I think it has to be broken or not able to run at stock speed at stock volts or something to get a new one. But it is not so hard to kill a cpu ;)

I think you need to wait 30 days and then send it in for a new one.
