Is that for real? I mean, it would probably be traceable somehow but very difficult as you're still running an "activated" version according to the software on the user's machine. It's not like Windows 8/8.1 whereby the key actually goes through KMS servers, and without them, you cannot activate your software.

I think it's to stop people pirating Windows 10. It sounds weird but I think they want to get everyone on Windows 10, and then they can buy there app's through the OS and make more money basically. The more people on Windows 10 there are (including a S*** load of pirates) the more money they will make. I kinda see there strategy but it is strange for MS to do this. I still don't quite believe this will happen

"Come in," said the wolf, in a squeaking voice. "Pull the string, and the latch will come up."

I'm genuine :)

I bought a serial for £15 from G2A, couldn't get it working and got a refund, then found out it did actually work lol.

Just a note on those serials. Supposedly an 8.1 serial works with 8 and then you upgrade. It doesn't so you will need 8.1.

That's how I got my money back as 8 refused to use the serial. Was only me playing around later on that I realised I'd got a free serial lmao.

Yer, it just made no sense to me. All I could see was some form of subscrition service or buy this and that for everything.

Here is your free copy of windows 10 and now you need to buy DX12 and WMP and you want to use a background? That will be a Tenner Sir :D

It would make sense for a couple of reasons tbh.

1. Microsoft are desperate to get people using Windows Marketplace. They are trying to take a chunk from Android and IOS and you don't do that by charging a couple of hundred quid for the OS.

2. They want people buying apps as they get a cut from it.

IMO they should stop charging for their OS completely. But hey, greed and all that. One thing is for sure, they would have more customers if it were either cheap or free.

This not completely correct. Granted Microsoft does create nice smoke screen like that, but this has been the same for years. That key you had does work - but you need a work around-.

The point is that any It manager that has more than a few desktops Pc's in its organization always try to simplify the installation of an new OS. Imagine getting 500 new systems and the all need to be filled with an OS, drivers etc etc. So they use "customized" Windows installers. Which the put together to their liking. I have used these methods for years and slipstreamed dozens of OS versions.

Fact is that even if you have a win7 32bit key you can register any 64bit version on that same key, same goes for upgrade keys that supposedly do not work on fresh install... .

For Windows 8, the serial even if it's a upgrade key can be used with a freshly installed w8.1 key. The trick is to use the slipstream method this bypasses any unnecessary and nonsense objections from Microsoft that a certain key cannot be used f9r this particular version (once bypassed, Microsoft accepts the key as ligit - which it is- an no problem ever again.

I recently slipstreamed another Windows 8.1 ISO with all updates up till that moment already implemented, that saves a lot of time. You can even Tweak it and create your own fully customizable OS version. It works for all (w8 and w8.1) serials you might have no problem whatsoever. Same goes for W10. Microsoft confirmed that all owners of w8-w8.1 serial get free upgrade to W10... I have an engineering sample that proves it does.

All completely legitimate

To be honest it got to be about numbers too, if they can say 80% of windows users are on windows 10 it will look a lot better on them.
But I do have that feeling after a year they will turn round as say you had a pirate copy so you need to pay £xxx amount for it (know luck prices would have just gone up too ;) )

If they are they need to throw some apps up there for a start. Every now and then when Im bored, I will browse the store on my Surface pro and its like the android retirement home for apps. Just free garbage and some malware thrown in to make things more interesting

I read somthing about users without a legit copy of 7 / 8.1 , their win 10 will keep all the telementry data programs installed and sending all kinds of crap to ms after the technical preview finishes and the full release version is out ( which should have all that crap removed so no more lag spikes every half hour or so! :p)
