Right now I'm not laughing...it just showed up here  :wtf:

EDIT: In fact this has pretty much pi**ed me off....I have automatic updates off....Microsoft simply pushed this onto my desktop without so much as a by-your-leave....pretty much shows where they are headed!

Hi there Ganji

It is alright I actually really like Microsoft and have no concerns about their pleasant software. They are to be commended for making my life easier and I have no complaints against their collection of data. Thank you for identifying the update for me, though I think you may be dangerous to society for doing so and should probably be locked up. I guess a team is on the way.

Hurray for Microsoft!

suprice???

ccording to a new process highlighted by Microsoft in a new blog post, you can avail free Windows 10 without Windows 7 or 8. If you are running the Insider Preview of Windows 10, build number 10130, you will be able to get the final release build on July 29 and further releases. Microsoft highlights that this version will be genuine.A

I'm liking the idea of Edge and to see the back of IE but i'd need convincing to leave Chrome.

Does anyone know how you obtain an ISO/DVD of Windows 10 installer once you've upgraded? I don't fancy re-installing at a later date from an ISO i've created or from Windows 7 again.

So what's the score here?

Not sure about that. Think you would simply use the ISO that you download each time.

Once you've upgraded you can then create an iso from the installer files http://www.zdnet.com/article/how-to-tur ... to-an-iso/

And here's what MS say,
Can I reinstall Windows 10 on my computer after upgrading?

Yes. Once you’ve upgraded to Windows 10 using the free upgrade offer, you will be able to reinstall, including a clean install, on the same device. You won’t need to purchase Windows 10 or go back to your prior version of Windows and upgrade again.

You’ll also be able to create your own installation media like a USB drive or DVD, and use that to upgrade your device or reinstall after you’ve upgraded.

Basically I took the dogs for a walk and it was pretty much done. I can't say I have noticed any difference but not got to have a deep play. Drivers for Nvidia installed on their own without issue as well. Seems pretty snappy and I quite like it.

I don't think it updated any other drivers but if it did, it did it quietly in the background.

So is this saying you would still be able to install win 10 even if you change mobo?

Can I reinstall Windows 10 on my computer after upgrading?
Yes. Once you’ve upgraded to Windows 10 using the free upgrade offer, you will be able to reinstall, including a clean install, on the same device. You won’t need a product key for re-activations on the same hardware. If you make a meaningful change to your hardware, you may need to contact customer support to help with activation. You’ll also be able to create your own installation media like a USB drive or DVD, and use that to upgrade your device or reinstall after you’ve upgraded.

I will be doing a clean install when I am off work next and something I really need to do but man I hate putting all my programs back on and invariably lose a few :(

In order to do a full, clean reinstall, you need to upgrade to Windows 10 first. It creates a partition (I believe, it did on my laptop) which holds the necessary data to activate your OS when you reinstall. Do NOT delete that partition.

Once you've upgraded, you can reboot, reinstall using the .ISO on your memory stick (provided you've made a bootable stick) and then just wait. All you need to do is skip the key insert during the install (you can do that now without modifying the ei.cfg file) and it will automatically activate when it connects to the internet for the first time. :D

I'm still finding my way around (it was a ****ing nightmare to delete a saved network!) but I do really like it so far.

I upgraded first thing this morning and did like the look of it but I had problems with my second monitor only coming on when it felt like it and trying to install Nvidia drivers was a right ball ache too. It would go through the motions but error out at the end with a msg like display driver could not install, even the one from windows update wouldn't install. In all Win 10 lasted about an hour before I reloaded a Win 7 image. I shall try it again at some point but I don't think it should have been released yet as there are lots of people who run multi monitor setups and plenty of them have told MS about the issues for a while.

I did notice one other good thing which lets you roll back to Win 7 but its only available for 1 month after updating.

I did the upgrade but did not save any of my files or apps.

What I did not enjoy was the fact that the process saves your old install in much the same way that win7 does. So I still ended up with a 50Gb sized folder.

Other than that I am happy camper so far the OS is way more accessible to me than Win8 was.
