Bah. Woke up to find I'd over slept and missed the postman, who has three parcels for me.

So today is out. I guess tomorrow I'll drag myself into Bognor (gob spit) and collect them. Just hope I don't catch lower class poggeritis, I hear it can be quite dangerous at this time of year :D

OK so today I had one job to do. The side fan.

Yesterday I wired and braided this fan.

Image

Yet somehow when I was finished it did not work. I was a bit frustrated so I put it to one side. Today I broke it all back into pieces and probed it, and it turns out I had a break in the negative line somewhere. I still don't know where because all of my solder joints were fine :S

Any way, I probed the fan.

Image

And all was well :)

Here are the white LEDs I fitted.

Image

And ready.

Weeeeeee teh internets !

OK so first I soldered the wires to the secondary power button.

Image

Which will be used, a lot. Setting up OSX on PC hardware requires lots of patience and use of the power button...

Made a header splitter from a fan splitter (the one in the first post, knew I'd use it lol)

Image

And then connected it.

Image

All back together now :)

Yesterday the side fan finally arrived so I fitted it.

Image

Image

More to come soon. Yosemite apparently launches this evening :D :D

Been meaning to stop by and comment. This is a true labour of love you are doing and I like the fact it is not costing an arm and a leg to do.

Nice work.

Just a small update. I found a bluetooth dongle in my desk. Plugged it in and it began to flash (the red thing)

Image

And got out my Pills Dude.

Image

And it worked ! so now I have a few options with regards to sound. Now? I downloaded Yosemite this morning and am building it now.

Image

Already had one failed build. Bugger, 'cause it takes about an hour all told to build the stick :(

BBL ! :D

Just one issue left, some glittery artefacts in games. I've had this before on my 7970, might just have to live with it. But it's nearly there now.

Hmm. I've been fighting with a graphics glitch for about a week now. I get tearing and crystalisation on objects. I actually thought I had damaged the 290 but I put Windows 8.1 on and it's absolutely fine.

I don't want to put the 480 Lightning back in so I think I will keep it on 8.1 for now and wait on some decent AMD drivers (story of my god damn life eh ?!!)

It appears that in March this year Creative Labs finally released a driver that works with their old cards.

This could be very interesting :D

Yay picture update !!

So here I am removing a SATA run and soldering on a MOLEX run from a dead PSU. Why do I always need a crap load of MOLEX and like two bloody SATA?

Image

So in order to perma fit the SBXFIFFPS I need a floppy run but one that doesn't look like sweaty ass.

Image

You'll notice the little white tabs on the GPU. Theyre there for two reasons.... More to come on that soon.

OK so test.

Image

And 3 days in its still working and switching between the front IO and rear card perfectly. So it will be fitted soon as I've also ordered parts to make that ribbon IO cable less sweaty ass-ey.

And the wrapped Firewire card.

Image

Because I'll still take wrap or real paint over that spray on tape crap. Either people can not spray paint and lack skills or it's simply crap.

Decided to fit the IO in the front which means heavy taking apart, cutting and modding. But it's for the best.

OK take apart.

Image

Mark.

Image

Cut and sand.

Image

Put back together.

Image

Glue is drying now. I have ordered this.

Image

Which the keen eyed will notice is a 40 pin IDE DMA 33 cable. That's what the Blaster uses and you can't use a 80 pin as I found out. So I need to mod it and I didn't want to risk killing the existing one. So I've bought some braid.

Image

And some fat ass shrink.

Image

And will use the 80 pin end rubber parts and some time to strip away each wire making the whole thing more flexible. Then it will look better :)

hehehe. I love poking around on Ebay. I just bought two of these...

Image

Not sure on spec yet, will look into that now but holy balls they'll look foogin STUNNING in X8. All black and white ;) RAID 0 obs.

Now one thing I absolutely loathe doing is making SATA braided cables. SATA ends are a complete poostick to mod, so I cheated and paid £9 for this.

Image

One MOLEX - 4 SATA. Can't really argue over that...

Image

Hell yeah.

Oh yeah this one's for the mods at OCUK.

EBAY. EBAY EBAY EBAY.

I love it :p

Give me ten minutes with a Dremel and I will change how you look at your computer forever - ALXAndy, Oct 2014.

OK. So I thought about making a back plate for my R9 290. It's an ugly sod at the best of times. Then I asked B-negs to paint it for me but he was too busy it seems.

So what can I do? well, I got two SSDs to mount and nowhere to put them. Let's doing something about it huh?

Image

So OK, mark. This won't make any sense whatsoever, but keep reading. Now look back at the first pic, you'll notice I drew a line. Well..

Image

OK, so I've clamped it into my workbench across that line. Closer..

Image

OK. So now that it's clamped in across the line we take a heat gun and start heating. Now this is like spray painting, only you do it closer. Spray painting is anything up to 12". Here I am using 3-4" as my guide.

Image

This gets hot. Very hot. Don't go any closer you will bubble the acrylic and wreck it. Now this takes a while, but don't force it as you will end up with camel bumps from it being uneven. What I do is gently press it until it falls of its own will.

And eventually....

Image

OK. Whatever you do DO NOT ****** touch it. That is a serious warning, it is seriously hot. Just keep gently pressing it evenly down, then take a look at the bend and make sure its even.

Image

Right, now we need it out but it's still a bit hot. Take a cloth and wet it with cold water. Then...

Image

Which cools it quicker. Eventually.

Image

Right. Lots of measuring very carefully and cutting later and we have...

Image

Then we mark up where the psu box ends, draw a line, cut and refit.

Image

And bugger me ! we have a duct !

Now let's have some more fun with it. This red thing came with the case. I threw every single one of them away but one, here's why.

Image

Because they carry the correct hole markings for SSDs. Oh yeah, talking of which.

Image

PCIE power wires.

Image

And..

Image

:D

:D

Well the SSDs are pretty battered. Nothing I can't touch up, but basically one of the Intel logos is pretty beat and not something I want to display.

I contacted the seller, and he was really cool about it. Basically we agreed that the tenner we would spend between us would be a waste, so he said bung him a tenner and he will send another, clean as a whistle.

OK. So, now I got three SSDs. And damn sure, I want to use all three in the RAID stripe so I bought some black Dinoc and ordered three of these.

Image

So what I will do is wrap the black parts and then use those ^ for the authentic look. They're obs very small, they come with Extreme Edition CPUs or very expensive Xeons. Ideal then.

Three drive RAID here we come, total cost around £47.
