Nope not going to do anything bad, your VGA will make perfect contact regardless.

The reason you do not use vaso in the CPU socket is because the pins there are spring type, and vaso will expand slightly when cold. That can and does result in the pins being pushed from the CPU pad.

Yip you are welcome.

Like I said in your intro post, just ask.

Start a thread with what you want to know or what you want to achieve and lets get too it.

Nice one mate. I take it you no longer need the CPU then...

Cheers bud, we should both have some more results to put up soon, Dutchdude is benching an i3 540 tomorrow and I'll be having a go at my 4770K and some GPUs (if it still works).

As soon as I get some LN2 though I'll be trying to get all the hardware records for the L3014. It actually shoudln't be that hard to do since I was limited by the motherboard more than the CPU.

My X5698 though looks very very promising, over 6GHz was seen in windows 7 on my phase unit, so full pot the chip should fly!!! Really looking forward to that one, the CPU is perfect for Cinebench R15 and Geekbench since the extra memory bandwidth from the triple channel ram compared to the 1156 i3 and i5s really does help a lot!!!!

Thanks Rauf. :)

Lewis is right. The i3 540 is prepped and ready to get chilly in a few hours time. I just need to finish off the insulation on the motherboard as I ran out of time before going to work.

I'm hoping it will do okay. I've not had much of a play with it, and it's just a random shot in the dark with this chip to be honest. It may work out, it may not. We will see.

I have a 4770K sat on my desk but I am trying to sell that one. I may bench it seeing as no one wants it. It's not a good chip by any means; so if it dies, it dies. I'm not fussed. Intel can just send me another. :D

Thank you, Greg! :D

The 540 was a total fail. Not even benchable at 5.5GHz with 1.9v going through it. It's a **** chip! I have another here but that's on the wrong revision. I do have my doubts but I think it may be better than this one. The board is warming up now so it's time for a bit of AMD fun again, with a triple core this time. I see a few very easy global first places I can take. ;)

So, I'm currently three for three and I'm a little gutted.

1) Phenom II 555 @x3 - couldn't bench above 6GHz.
2) i3 540 - needed 1.9 volts for 5.5, absolute dog.
3) i7-4770K - can't even do 2000MHz RAM, and no, that is not a mistype or memory issue, I tried three different kits.

From here on, I have another 540 but it's the wrong stepping. I'll give it a whirl as it should hopefully be better than this crap chip, but I have little faith. Who knows. I may be four for four later on.

If it is a dud, I have a Phenom II 560 which unlocks to a quad successfully, as a last resort to make use of my LN2.

Hopefully next months session will be better than this!

Only saving grace is by time i've been on my hols next week i only have to wait around a week for my next fill :D

You get filled up every three weeks, Nick? Damn!

Mine is only once every six weeks. On the plus side, that gives me approximately four weeks to re-buy, retest, and re-plan my chosen method of attack. :D

Well, that's all of my LN2 gone... With only a few decent results to show for it.

The 4770K seemed okay up to 5.3GHz, and then fell off of a cliff after that. 5.3GHz was perfectly benchable at 1.425v, through all multithreaded benchies, and it pretty much stopped dead at 5.6GHz needing 1.75v to pass all of the benchies I had time for. VCCIN was also at a "generous" 2.4v (2.6v didn't help, but it made it worse).

It's time to get rid of it as quickly as I physically can, and then wait for Broadwell to release itself into the wild.
