The Emulation thread.

Post #1 by ALXAndy » Tue Jan 06, 2015 4:02 pm

Hola.

So who still uses emulators?

Since building my MAC I wanted to play games on it but the Quadro I use for stability is not up to modern gaming. It does run Duke Nukem OKish at full pelt, and loves Borderlands 2, but I wanted to play more games.

So, I started using SixtyForce which is an N64 emulator for MAC. Didn't take me long to pretty much find a full set of N64 roms, with only a few old faves that don't work properly (Mario Golf and Cruis'n USA).

Mario, Banjo and Conkers all work fine though, so I will find plenty of entertainment there (not completed Mario 64 since 2004 !).

So any one else using emus still? I bought this from Ebay for £8.

And to my surprise it worked first time, all buttons correct, with no fiddling at all ! Will really add to the experience...

N64 was my favourite console launch ever. I got mine from a mate who flew to Japan. We sent him off with two suitcases, and paid the air fare plus the cost of the console so IIRC I paid about £265 for mine. I then needed to buy a RGB converter cable to get colour, and it cost me nearly £60..

But most of all I remember travelling to Waterloo station to meet up with the guy I used to buy my import games from. After the N64 companies decided to release consoles worldwide at the same time so the import market pretty much died on its ass. Shame really !

I have been using project 64 over the last couple of days with a PS3 controller. I have used zsnes before for A Link to the Past but was blown away by how easy P64 has been to set up and use. Have been having a quick go on quite a few old favourites SM64 etc but have really enjoyed International Super Star Soccer 2000, is every but as good as I remember it but is super sharp and framerate is superb. Last played it natively on a N64 a year or two back and am sure it was difficult to play because of frame rate issues. So really pleased.

I had a N64 emulator although I cant remember what it was but had Mario 64, Goldeneye etc. and worked a treat, controller was already setup and was super addictive. The snes one was aswell. Very time consuming :)

The only emulator that I have enjoyed was the Amiga one. Not that there is anything wrong with any of the N64/C63/Speecy/Mega drive one's, it just seems that the games I grew up on have not stood the test of time very well at all. I had over 300 Amiga games but lost them all when one of my 2TB drives went down, as well as loads and loads of other keepsake stuff.

I have over 3 gig of game roms :o All my favorite arcade game from way back. my best is stargate defender. I use mame32 to run the the games. I hacked a 10 button usb game controller and built a full size arcade console with authentic buttons and joy stick. Ill have to post a picture of it.

Another World's opening was mind blowing and one of the best I have ever seen. Project X was one of the hardest games I have ever played but the music was awesome.

Love to see a pic of your setup Meankeys. That sounds pretty awesome.

Thanks guys. I should finish it. I have printed vinyl decals I made to go over the buttons. I even have the internals of a stargate defender arcade console. I started wiring the boards and building the harnesses. May be some day ill finish it. Did you know that most of those arcade game roms are only about 150k of game code.

Any Android Emulator'ators out here ? With the piles and piles of games (and apps) and a little spare time
I have found it quite amusing on the PC for tension relief. (plus it helps to weed through what's useful and not
so much so for an actual android device.)
Currently my favorite is "Blue Stacks". Quick, easy, down and dirty. Go kick a sheep !!! lol. .c.

I'm actually starting to enjoy playing these old games more than the new pc games lol I only have dolphin and cemu emulators at the moment as I LOVE Nintendo especially the gamecube, just been playing Mario kart double dash but put the resolution up to 1440p as even though I'm playing on a 1080p monitor it still looks sharper for some reason when played at a higher res and downscaled?
