Thoughts on HBM2 being unlikely to arrive until 2017

Post #1 by spot35 » Tue Mar 15, 2016 1:25 pm

Was hoping to upgrade to Pascal (or Polaris) over the summer, but with the Capsaicin event noting that HBM2 is unlikely until Vega, I feel that nvidia will follow suit.

What are people's thoughts here?

As much as I like new tech and get excited about new GPU's I am kinda hoping HBM2 will only be on full fat Pascal and I'm hoping full Pascal doesn't come till end of summer at the very earliest, simply because I want my 980ti's to live longer in my rig and I'll only upgrade to full Pascal, February, March 2017 would really be an ideal time for me, at least then I would get a good innings on Maxwell and more time to save. My guess though would be full fat pascal Titan with HBM2 before the end of summer, but who really knows?

If there's a full fat titan with HBM2 in the summer, I will be pouncing on that.

Hopefully it's next year, so I've got a chance to save for a new card and motherboard in that time. That's the plan anyway. :?

I wouldn't mind either GDDR5X or HBM2. When it's ready it's ready :-)

True. I saw a 'leak' today that implied the ti would be GDDR5X as well. With just the Titan having HBM2.

I've been reading the HBM 2 will make an appearance in the Ti and Titan versions of the forthcoming Pascal cards which will use the 16nm process.

Yeah, £700-£1000 cards will get it. Deep pockets needed :( Or grab a 980ti or 2 when prices get slashed.
